Scripture Study

Scripture Study

The Book of Mormon and the Bible: two testaments, one Jesus Christ.

Two books that speak of Christ

The Bible and the Book of Mormon do not contradict each other — they complement each other. Both contain the word of God, the teachings of Jesus Christ and the testimony of prophets who lived in different parts of the world. Together they form a fuller witness of Jesus as Savior.

We invite you to study the scriptures with us in an atmosphere of respect, friendship and learning. It doesn't matter how much you know — what matters is the desire to seek the truth.

The Bible

The Bible is one of the most important books in history. It contains the record of God's dealings with His people from the Creation to the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ. The four Gospels tell of the life, ministry and Atonement of Jesus — the heart of our faith.

We study the Bible with reverence and regard it as sacred scripture. Verses such as John 3:16, James 1:5 or the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) are a central part of our sessions.

The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is an additional volume of sacred scripture. It contains the record of prophets who lived on the American continent between about 600 B.C. and A.D. 421. Its central message is the same as that of the Bible: Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.

It was translated by Joseph Smith from gold plates by the gift and power of God. Today it is available free of charge in more than 100 languages. At the end of the book, Moroni 10:3-5 extends an invitation to every reader: ask God in sincere prayer whether the book is true, and you will receive a confirmation by the Holy Ghost.
